SHALAKYA TANTRA
INTRODUCTION:
The Shalakya Tantra department is a specialized branch of Ayurveda, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to the organs above the clavicle, particularly the eyes, ears, nose, throat, and head. It involves various therapeutic techniques i.e. kriyakalpa and surgeries that aim to treat conditions affecting these areas, including ophthalmology (Eye), otorhinolaryngology (ENT), and dentistry, within the context of traditional Ayurvedic practices. At Bhagwant Ayurvedic Collage and Bhagwant Hospital, Muzaffarnagar, U.P., curriculum includes understanding the fundamental concepts of Shalakya Tantra. Students also get opportunities to engage in research related to new techniques or improvements in existing methods.
Key areas of focus in Shalakya Tantra include:
1. Netra Roga (Eye Diseases): Treatment of eye conditions such as cataracts, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, etc.
2. Karna Roga (Ear Diseases): Managing issues like hearing loss, tinnitus, and infections.
3. Nasya Roga (Nose Diseases): Addressing sinusitis, nasal polyps, and other nasal conditions.
4. Mukha Roga (Oral Diseases): Treatment of dental issues, mouth ulcers, and other oral conditions.
5. Shiro Roga (Head Diseases): Managing headaches, migraines, and other head-related conditions.
